EFCC nabs 34 suspected Internet fraudsters in Ekiti


The Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  have arrested 34 suspected internet fraudsters.

According to the statement made available to journalists in Ibadan by the Head of Mefia and Publicity of the  Dele Oyewale,the alleged fraudsters were rounded up  in the early hours of Monday, at Iworoko and Ijado areas of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State following credible intelligence  about their suspected fraudulent activities.

Oyewale said items recovered from them include eleven exotic cars, laptops, several mobile phones, incriminating documents among others.

"They would charged to court when investigations are concluded", he said.

Olubadan joins ancestors two days after 90th birthday

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has joined his ancestors for two days marking his 90 th  birthday.   Owolabi Olakulehin, passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, exactly one year after he ascended the throne. Mr. Toye Arulogun, one of the members of the Olubadan Media Team confirmed the development to The Guardian in Ibadan.   ''I can confirm it. We will soon issue an official statement on it'', Arulogun, who was a former Commissioner for Information in Oyo State, said.    Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin’s death,  was officially presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, becoming the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne following the demise of Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died at the age of 81 years on March 14, 2024.

UI Celebrates its researchers who won awards, grants

The  Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale,has lauded research teams from different departments of the university who won the TETFUND Institutional Based Research Awards and a China-Nigeria Joint Laboratory Project for Soil and Water Conservation; and Agricultural Sustainable Development Grant on behalf of the university. Adebowale  made the commendation at an award presentation ceremony held in honour of the researchers.
