Ibadan-based don backs renaming UNIMAID after Buhari

A Professor  of Comparative Politics at the University of Ilorin,Kwara State,  Gbade Ojo, has thrown his weight behind  the Federal Government’s decision to rename the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) after the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Bola Tinubu had made the announcement during  the special expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in honour of the late former president. The renaming of the university, now to be known as Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri, has generated nationwide discussions.

Ojo, who was a former Chief of Staff to the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, said there was nothing wrong in immortalising the former president by naming a university after him. The professor stated this in a chat with The Guardian in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

‘’The Federal Government owns the university and it can name it after any deserving Nigerians. I don’t expect any eyebrows on this step. Buhari was a former president. There is nothing wrong in immortalising him by naming a university after him’’, the professor said.
