Jonathan eminently qualified to contest in 2027,says Bode George

A former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Olabode George, said former President Jonathan was eminently qualified to run for office on the platform of the PDP.George said the former President had a track record which would be salable to Nigerians.
He said: “He is very qualified because he did not leave the party. The more the merrier. All those who say they want to contest should wait till 2035. He is the easiest to sell because he has a track record, especially the economic indices Nigeria witnessed during his tenure.”

 

On whether having been sworn in twice would not knock Jonathan out of the race, George said: “It cannot because he was sworn in when Umar Yar’Adua died to continue his tenure, and it was because of the Doctrine of Necessity.

 

He did not contest any election; he was sworn in to complete Yar’Adua’s tenure, who died while in office.”

They staged the protest at the front of the Southwest Regional Office of First Bank, Dugbe, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The retirees, elderly men and women, who   alleged that their pensions had not been increased in the last 20 years,  stood united in a protest born of desperation and decades of what they felt was injustice.  Their spokespersons,  Prince Debo Olaoya, Olusola Adekoya, and Sanjo Akanmu, said despite their faithful service to the bank, their monthly pensions are demeaning and degrading. Olubadan joins ancestors two days after 90th birthday

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has joined his ancestors for two days marking his 90 th  birthday.   Owolabi Olakulehin, passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, exactly one year after he ascended the throne. Mr. Toye Arulogun, one of the members of the Olubadan Media Team confirmed the development to The Guardian in Ibadan.   ''I can confirm it. We will soon issue an official statement on it'', Arulogun, who was a former Commissioner for Information in Oyo State, said.    Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin’s death,  was officially presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, becoming the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne following the demise of Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died at the age of 81 years on March 14, 2024.

UI Celebrates its researchers who won awards, grants

The  Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale,has lauded research teams from different departments of the university who won the TETFUND Institutional Based Research Awards and a China-Nigeria Joint Laboratory Project for Soil and Water Conservation; and Agricultural Sustainable Development Grant on behalf of the university. Adebowale  made the commendation at an award presentation ceremony held in honour of the researchers.
