Pensioners protest in Ibadan over poor pay

By Eniola Philip  Retirees, under the aegis of Nigerian Union of Pensioners, FBN branch, Ibadan, on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan, decrying poor pays  from their former employer, First Bank Nigeria Limited. They staged the protest at the front of the Southwest Regional Office of First Bank, Dugbe, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The retirees, elderly men and women, who   alleged that their pensions had not been increased in the last 20 years,  stood united in a protest born of desperation and decades of what they felt was injustice.  Their spokespersons,  Prince Debo Olaoya, Olusola Adekoya, and Sanjo Akanmu, said despite their faithful service to the bank, their monthly pensions are demeaning and degrading. Bashorun Kola Daisi @93: Living For Philanthropy by Gani Adeniran

I had written severally on Bashorun Kola Daisi and paid tributes to him on the occasions of his birthday.  On September 14th, Bashorun turns 93 years in the land of the  living. We must continue to celebrate this gargantuan philanthropist of our time, a pride of Ibadanland, and someone the God Almighty has put on earth simply to do His work and no more.  Just about a month ago, I visited his house to check on him. He had complained earlier in the year when we met at the inaugural lecture named in his honour by the Ibadan Foundation, one of the preeminent clubs that parade the crème de la crème of Ibadan elites, intelligentsia and business tycoons. He said that he no longer saw  me as often as he would have wished. When I told me that I am now retired, his response was a story for another day. Oba Olayinka Celebrates Baba Adejumoke Oni as He Joins Octogenarian Club

The Olu-Odo of Odo-Ijesha in Atakumosa East Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Olufemi Olayinka, on Friday rejoiced with a prominent elder of the town, Elder Adejumoke Omoarare Oni, as he clocks 80 years  today.  In a tribute, he  personally signed and titled “Tribute to Baba Adejumoke Omoarare Oni, FCA, as He Joins Octogenarian Club”, the monarch described Baba Oni, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), as a towering figure whose life of service and achievements remain exemplary.
