Ibadan North By-election: Makinde’s Aide Emerges PDP Candidate

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle,  has emerged as the consensus candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.

The development comes after other aspirants graciously stepped down and pledged their full support to Oyekunle’s candidacy.

The consensus arrangement was reached at a high-level meeting with Governor Makinde and the aspirants vying for the party ticket.

 PDP leaders and sstakeholders who attended the meeting, included  former Deputy Governor Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, Senior Executive Assistant Chief Bayo Lawal, and Oyo State PDP Party Secretary Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke.

Oyekunle is a former lawmaker who represented Ibadan North I state constituency at the Oyo state House of Assembly.

They staged the protest at the front of the Southwest Regional Office of First Bank, Dugbe, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The retirees, elderly men and women, who   alleged that their pensions had not been increased in the last 20 years,  stood united in a protest born of desperation and decades of what they felt was injustice.  Their spokespersons,  Prince Debo Olaoya, Olusola Adekoya, and Sanjo Akanmu, said despite their faithful service to the bank, their monthly pensions are demeaning and degrading. Bashorun Kola Daisi @93: Living For Philanthropy by Gani Adeniran

I had written severally on Bashorun Kola Daisi and paid tributes to him on the occasions of his birthday.  On September 14th, Bashorun turns 93 years in the land of the  living. We must continue to celebrate this gargantuan philanthropist of our time, a pride of Ibadanland, and someone the God Almighty has put on earth simply to do His work and no more.  Just about a month ago, I visited his house to check on him. He had complained earlier in the year when we met at the inaugural lecture named in his honour by the Ibadan Foundation, one of the preeminent clubs that parade the crème de la crème of Ibadan elites, intelligentsia and business tycoons.
